This week, as part of the European Week of Regions and Cities, LandSense launched the mapathon! Using OpenStreetMap and Sentinel 2 satellite data the team at Heidelberg created a citizen-driven land use map of the EU.
In this initiative volunteers can contribute to four themes (Urban, Agriculture, Nature and Expert) and help validate this novel map. They are crowdsourcing the validation of 80000 locations across the EU and the resulting data will be made openly available.
Please visit https://landsense.eu/Mapathon, select a theme and being contributing! Be sure to check out the instructions if you are new to land cover and land use.
